Wake me up when September ends.....

Hi everyone!!!

I went to my friend Krista's last night for her monthly crop and before I dug into some DT work, I wanted to play along with Bella Blvd's latest sketch that they shared yesterday!!

As most of you know, I take monthly photos with my kids in honor of Aleida Franklin.  It was 4 years ago in September that she was killed in a car accident.  As soon as I saw Bella Blvd's sketch, I knew that I wanted to incorporate some of my monthly photos with my babies... this is 21 of the 47 photos I have done since Aleida died.

I used mostly Bella Blvd.'s Estate Sale papers and embellies on here

For my title -- "Wake me up when September Ends" -- I chose that title from the Green Day song.  Ironically, I have had this idea of making a layout with this collage of pictures in my head for sometime -- and it was Bella Blvd.'s sketch that finally gave me the push to make it :)

Even MORE ironic ... as I was preparing to go to the crop at Krista's last night... I turned on the TV --- and for some reason VH1 was the station that was on at that moment.... and wouldn't you know  --

Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" was the video that was playing on VH1 at the time I turned the TV on!!! I am thinking Aleida was telling me something....

In case you can't read my handwriting ... my journaling reads --

"In September 2008 Aleida Franklin was killed in a car accident. A month before she was killed, she wrote on her blog about taking photos with her kids because she realized there were none from when they were babies. She only got one month of photos in before she died. She changed my life. From the day she died and every month since, I have taken a monthly photo with my babies in honor of Aleida."

And here are the lyrics to Green Day's song....

"Wake Me Up When September Ends"

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

like my father's come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends

summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when September ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

like my father's come to pass
twenty years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends

Here is Bella Blvd.'s sketch that inspired my layout:

And with the leftovers from my layout -- I made this card :)

  4. I love your layout Julie! What a wonderful mix of photos that your kids will always cherish. I went on a tangent and looked up Aleida's blog and some posts about her. She was an amazing talent. So very sad. Her children are beautiful. She is so very blessed to have people like you keep her memory alive. And you were blessed by being touched by her and reminded of what's important. Again, excellent, excellent job on the layout!

  11. Julie you are making me cry! I always remember your friend Aleida when I stop by. I always remember both of you as I snap photos. My middle is going on her first camping trip, truly roughing it. I told her shot lots of photos! You never get those moments back.
As for Green Day I LOVE THIS SONG! The Green Day member who wrote the song wrote it because he lost his father and lots of folks thought he wrote it in regard to 9-11. It is a truly touching song.
My oldest daughter has a scrap booking room. This winter we will spend time there and making pages for our memory books!
Love and Hugs. You are a beautiful woman! I LOVE knowing you!

  15. I think this layout is amazing and I love the fact that you're getting in the photos with your kids. I made a similar resolution a while back because everyone kept asking where I was in my scrapbook pages when I showed my albums off. I was doing a better job of handing off the camera a few months ago before I got my new DSLR.

  53. Hi Julie,
First, is was a pleasure to meet you the other day at Laura's! Second this post really resignation with me as I was listening intently to the green day song yesterday and it touched me the way Aleida's words about photos touched you. I plan to adopt the same attitude and get pictures every month. Maybe I will even become a scrap booker. Anyway thanks for sharing it was timely for me. Hope our paths cross again and I will come back here soon.Warm Regards, Karen
