Whether you come back by page or by the big screen....

Hi everyone!

First off I want to wish everyone a very Happy Valentine's Day! We have nothing really special planned, just going out to dinner at a local restaurant with the kids, (not a chain restaurant, but a family owned one, as they seem to be less crowded on the 'holidays') and then just come home and hang out together! Whatever you have planned, I hope it's a great day for you!

I wanted to share a canvas I made for a friend -- She is a HUGE fan of Harry Potter, and this is one of her FAVE quotes from the author J.K. Rowling!

The quote reads: "Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home." ~~J.K. Rowling

I used Tim Holtz's tags that I got from BlueMoonScrapbooking.com, and I also used the "Harry Potter" stickers I got from Creative Imaginations!

I also wanted to share how I created my texture on the actual canvas!

First, I painted it with regular acrylic paint -

While the paint is still wet, I misted it -

And while the paint and the mist is still wet, I take an old dress pattern -

And lay it on my canvas and move it around with my fingers to create "texture" - and if you don't have an old dress pattern - you can also use tissue paper! Just a warning though - your fingers will get MESSY with this process!

Take off the dress pattern (or tissue paper) and you will have texture! And now you just let it dry!

And here is another tip - I placed paper towels down to not have the mist/paint get on my counter top - but if you let it dry this way, the paper towels will get stuck to the back of the canvas and hard to take off (YES! Lesson learned the hard way! lol!) So, take a piece of plastic (for this, I used an old kit club plastic bag), or you can lay it down on wax paper also and that will prevent it from sticking!!
I also wanted to share some pictures from our weekend!

Brookie got this ADORABLE cupcake hat from Maggi!! (Maggi made it!! Love love love it!) Thanks Maggi!!

And Jana sent Brookie this CUTE little sign for her room!! Thanks Jana!! She loves it!

And we also went out to support my friend Krista's Roller Derby Team!! And Brookie and I wore matching shirts for the occasion!

Krista even let Brookie wear her Roller Derby helmet for the match!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I appreciate it! :)
